Just for fun--this is a project from one of my Instructional Design courses, meant to be a quick online introduction to Victorian Culture. The videos are made with Animoto.

Activity 1: Play the Game

Picture
Immerse yourself in Victorian culture by ACTUALLY LIVING IT.

Play through the interactive story several times to see what happens to Sally Shipyard when she tries to make her way in Victorian Culture.

I did this in person with my class reading the story aloud, but it could also be a separate activity played online. The story is loosely based on a variety of Victorian novels, so if your class is reading in the field, you'll get the gist of it.

Activity 2: Create a Scavenger Hunt

For this activity, you will make a scavenger hunt for your classmates. Pick one location, one event, and one image from history, using the resources below.

Then, write detailed clues for each object which will guide your classmates to the same link you found. Be sure to explain why the object is particularly representative of Victorian society.

Then, play the scavenger hunt of at least one of your classmates, and see what you come up with!

SUBMIT your scavenger Hunt here!
(Note: I made this and the final forms with Google forms. You'll need to make your own version if you want to use this with your students, but it's easy to do!)

Activity 3: Apply Your Knowledge!

You've been a valiant explorer in Victorian Britain. Good job! But one challenge lies before you--can you extend your knowledge to an analysis of the texts?

Follow the link to take you to the final test and apply your knowledge of Victorian culture to Victorian literature.

Good luck!
