Faculty Qualifications:
Required: PhD in Rhetoric and Composition or a related field, or doctoral candidacy with expectation by June 1, 2019; demonstrated commitment to student-centered teaching in the liberal arts tradition; evidence of teaching effectiveness and experience teaching first-year composition; interest and ability in developing new curriculum in professional and/or technical writing; a promising scholarly agenda and/or scholarly publications in professional or technical writing.

Preferred: Demonstrated commitment and success working in diverse, multicultural contexts, especially in higher education.

Faculty Responsibilities:
The English Department, the largest in the School of Liberal Arts, offers undergraduate courses in literature, creative writing, and composition. The Department of Romance Languages at the University of Oregon invites applications for the position of tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in Spanish Sociolinguistics and Director of the Spanish Heritage Language (SHL) program. Department or Program Summary
The Department of Romance Languages is located in the College of Arts and Sciences, and is a diverse, multicultural, and plurilingual academic unit that researches and instructs in French, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish languages and literatures. It is the largest foreign language department at the University of Oregon and frequently intersects with other departments and colleges on campus. The department sponsors and supports numerous activities such as lectures, film festivals, study abroad programs, international conference, and community events.

Our department is composed of faculty members of different national origins, nationally and internationally distinguished, and a body of talented students pursuing Master’s and Doctoral degrees. There are approximately 47 full-time faculty and 38 graduate students.

The candidate must be committed to making significant contributions to the creative and intellectual life of the department, university, and community. The English Department offers major emphases in creative writing; critical studies in literatures, cultures, and film; English teaching; linguistics; and rhetorics of science, technology and culture at the undergraduate level as well as a Master’s program with emphases in (1) writing and (2) literature and textual interpretation. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Earned M.F.A. or Ph.D. in creative writing. All requirements for terminal degree must be completed by August 26, 2019. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching creative writing workshops at the college level
  • A strong record of poetry publications, preferably one book in print or in press and/or publications and awards in prestigious literary magazines and journals
  • Demonstrated expertise and teaching excellence in at least one of the secondary areas listed above 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to mentor both graduate and undergraduate creative writing students 

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will teach courses in creative writing (both workshops and genre courses) as well as first-year writing. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach other courses as appropriate to their areas of expertise in other areas of English. Teaching load is typically 3-3 (11 credit hours), including the Blugold Seminar (a 5-credit introductory, rhetoric-based writing course), and two creative writing/critical studies courses. All department members also participate in scholarly and creative research activities and engage in service to the department, college, and university.

We seek a specialist in British Romanticism. The successful candidate will offer courses across the full range of the period's poetry and prose. We are open to any scholarly focus within the period, and are especially interested in candidates who will contribute on a regular basis to one or more of the following multi-disciplinary programs: Victorian Studies, Environmental Studies, Women's Studies. Possible secondary fields include, but are not limited to, the long eighteenth century (1688-1815), comparative Romanticisms, the critical study of race, digital humanities, empire and/or transatlantic studies, environmental studies, ecocriticism, gender and sexuality, queer studies, landscape studies, and literature and the history of science. Teaching load in the first year is four courses. In ensuing years it will be five courses or four courses plus an "Intensive," a course where students work with faculty on projects, theses, independent studies, or other forms of closely-mentored student learning.

Qualifications
Faculty are expected to teach broadly in the curricula of their departments, advise students, and serve on college-wide and departmental committees. The College has a generous leave policy, provides strong support for research, and encourages multidisciplinary approaches to teaching. Position
The primary professional responsibilities of this instructional faculty member are: teaching all levels of Spanish, but primarily upper-division and graduate-level courses in Spanish Peninsular literature and culture; research, scholarship, and/or creative activity; service to the University, College, Department, profession, and community.  These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

Qualifications

  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish
  • D. in Spanish or a related field by the start of the appointment. Advanced ABDs considered. If ABD, please have your dissertation committee chair provide a letter indicating your progress to date and detailing a timeline to completion
  • Specialization in Contemporary Peninsular Literary and Cultural Studies
  • Ability to balance excellent teaching, scholarship, and service

NMHU is seeking an innovative and engaging candidate whose teaching, scholarship and service will contribute to both academic programs and the respective schools. The overall instructional load will be 24 credit hours per academic year, allocated as 12 credit hour instruction in the Department of Languages and Culture and 12 credit hour instruction in the School of Education minor program in Bilingual Education. In the Department of Languages and Culture the successful candidate will potentially provide instruction in all levels of Spanish language including Heritage Language instruction and Spanish for the professions. The successful candidate will assist students in the development of state teacher competencies necessary for new Mexico Bilingual Education Endorsement Requirements. - An earned Doctoral Degree in the area of Bilingual Education or Spanish with Bilingual Certification.
- The candidate will have two or more years of experience teaching P-12 schools and two or more years of experience teaching at the college/university level.

The teaching expectation is three courses per semester. The Modern Language Department currently offers a Liberal Arts Degree with a Spanish concentration. The Department offers courses in five languages: Arabic, French, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. Current initiatives include e-Portfolio integration, learning communities, hybrid courses, Open Educational Resources (OERs), and the introduction of less commonly taught languages (LCTLs).

Scholarly growth and involvement in department and college initiatives are required. Perform teaching and research in area(s) of expertise. Share responsibility for committee and department assignments may be assigned. The position entails teaching classes in Spanish across a wide range of undergraduate levels, conducting research leading to publication, updating undergraduate courses, providing curriculum material, mentoring students, and serving on faculty and student-oriented committees. Departmental and institutional service is required, and flexibility for evening or weekend teaching is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS

Earned doctorate in Spanish, Second Language Acquisition, Hispanic Linguistics, Cultural Studies, Comparative Literature, or a related field. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English.

Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Proven excellence and experience teaching undergraduate-level Spanish at a post-secondary institution are required. Applicants should demonstrate evidence of or potential for high-quality research.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Teaching experience in a culturally and linguistically diverse student populations at the undergraduate level as well as an awareness of the latest developments in technology-supported instruction

- Grant writing experience

- Training, experience, and an interest in one of the following areas:

We are looking for a colleague with a strong teaching record in both cultural studies and language teaching, with research connecting the Francophone and the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, and wide expertise in communities of African descent in the Americas. 

The successful candidate will be a member of the Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (MLLC) field group and will collaborate with colleagues in other field groups to develop courses to strengthen Latin American Studies across the curriculum. Collaboration is highly recommended with the Chicana/o Latina/o Transnational Studies field group, the Gender and Feminist Studies program and the intercollegiate departments of Africana Studies and Latin American Studies.

Detailed Description:
The Department of Languages, Cultures, and Literatures invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of French beginning Fall 2019. We seek a generalist with broad teaching interests. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work focuses on one or more of the following topics: eighteenth, nineteenth or twentieth centuries, critical race studies, women's, gender and sexuality studies, philosophy, and/or cultural history. The selected candidate will collaborate to further develop the curriculum, establish collaborations with programs and departments on campus, and integrate interdisciplinary approaches. French business or French for the professions is also a plus. Advanced training in Second Language Acquisition is desirable, as is significant experience in language teaching and in effectively addressing diversity in curricula and the classroom.

Job Requirements:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. and native or near-native fluency in both French and English. They must demonstrate an active research agenda, a record of successful teaching, as well as enthusiasm, innovation, and demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching, from basic language to advanced literature and culture courses.
